But that rhythm is losing breath. Ice is the first line of defense to warming trands, and its decline provides incontrovertible evidence of climate change.
I have travelled over 8,000 kilometers on foot across the Arctic sea, Greenland and Antarctica, given me a deeper perspective of the subtle variations taking place at the hands of a warming world.

The team faced a ferocious storm which had them pinned down in their tents for seven consecutive days and nights! On June 5, 2010, the team completed a 24 hour run which netted them a new Guinness Book World Record for the longest distance traveled in 24 hours, with 595km. This is a remarkable and inspiring story you have to see to believe it, co-produced by Red Bull Media House.
Sebastian Copeland’s Into the Cold: A Journey of the Soul retraces two men’s dramatic expedition to the North Pole in sub-zero temperatures and covering more than 400 miles on foot. The mission was carried out to commemorate the centennial of Admiral Peary’s reach in 1909. A personal and harrowing journey of endurance and commitment, Into The Cold delves into the depth of the soul against the backdrop of the magnificent and expansive Great North. Fewer than 150 people have walked such distance to reach the pole on foot in the last century. This film documents this rapidly vanishing environment: one hundred years from now, there will not be a bicentennial expedition on foot to the North Pole, for the ice there will have long since gone.
